đź’™ About the Developments series
Salsa is a rich, expressive form, and we aim to explore it in ways that are both deep and accessible. Rather than rushing into complex moves we focus on musicality, connection, and depth.
With the Developments series each month offers a new 4-week progressive course with a different focus. You don’t need to have joined the previous month, but you should already have a solid foundation in Crossbody Salsa as either a Follower or Lead.
💙What We Mean by “Suitable for Improvers”
We’re moving away from strict level labels, but to feel comfortable in this course, you’ll need to be around what we used to call Improvers Level.
As a guide:
🔵 Around 3 months of weekly Crossbody Salsa experience as either a Follower or Lead.
We ask that you stick with the role you’re most comfortable with at this level. If you’d like to try a new role, we recommend starting with our Foundations Series.
💙What’s Covered This Month
In October we’ll focus on double turn technique, including:
Double right (Leads) and double left (Leads) turns
Right–left turn combinations
Spin technique, spotting, and round action leads
Regulating energy throughout a song
We’ll also continue developing:
Shoulder-based body movement
Musicality and emphasising core beats
Improvisation in social dancing
đź’™ Different styles of Salsa and Crossbody
We teach Crossbody Salsa because it’s the style most of us have trained in and it offers a clear structure to build confidence and technique.
We’re not fixed on it, we value all styles of Salsa and Afro-Latin dance, and believe exploring across styles makes you a stronger, more connected dancer. Starting with one style can make that journey easier.
We value the many ways people dance and connect to Salsa, especially if you’ve grown up with it in family or community spaces. If your experience is different from Crossbody and you would like to join this course, feel free to get in touch to see if you will be comfy on this course.
đź’™ Welfare & Accessibility
Guardian Dancers: Experienced volunteers wearing pink wristbands who offer extra 1:1 support during class and are available for welfare needs.
Venue access: Step-free entry and accessible toilets.
PA’s attend free – just let a member of the team know on the day.
We’re committed to making our courses safe and inclusive. Please contact us about any needs that would help you take part more fully.
