🧡 About the foundations series

Salsa is a rich, expressive form, and we aim to explore it in ways that are both deep and accessible. Rather than rushing into complex moves, our 3-month Foundations Series focuses on musicality, connection, and depth.

Each month builds on the last:

  • September (Month 1): Basics – basic step, hold, and right turn

  • October (Month 2): This course – deepen foundations with the Crossbody Turn

  • November (Month 3): Flow – add the Crossbody Check and simple variations

By the end, you’ll have a strong foundation and could be ready to join a Developments course.

🧡 What we mean by “suitable for Improving Beginners”

In September, we focused on the basic step, basic hold, and right turn.
In October, we’ll build on that by introducing the Crossbody Turn and strengthening those foundations.

This course is not for complete beginners. We recommend:
đźź  Around one month of regular weekly Crossbody Salsa experience

This could be from our September intro course, or equivalent experience gained elsewhere (even if it’s been a while).

💡 Not sure if you’re ready? Email us and we’ll help you decide.

🧡 What’s covered this month

In October, we’ll focus on:

  • The Crossbody Turn

  • Leading and following the basic step, crossbody step, and both right and left turns

  • Different partner holds and simple variations of foundational moves

  • Building awareness of Salsa body movement, improvisation, and social dance etiquette

🧡 Different styles of Salsa and Crossbody

We teach Crossbody Salsa because it’s the style most of us have trained in and it offers a clear structure to build confidence and technique.

We’re not fixed on it, we value all styles of Salsa and Afro-Latin dance, and believe exploring across styles makes you a stronger, more connected dancer. Starting with one style can make that journey easier.

We value the many ways people dance and connect to Salsa, especially if you’ve grown up with it in family or community spaces. If your experience is different from Crossbody and you would like to join this course, feel free to get in touch to see if you will be comfy on this course.

🧡 Welfare & Accessibility

  • Guardian Dancers: Experienced volunteers wearing pink wristbands who offer extra 1:1 support during class and are available for welfare needs.

  • Venue access: Step-free entry and accessible toilets.

  • PA’s attend free – just let a member of the team know on the day.

We’re committed to making our courses safe and inclusive. Please contact us about any needs that would help you take part more fully.
