Protect your feet!
Crossbody is well known for its fun and fancy spins, but these can be demanding on your body if you’re not prepared. Now that you’re comfortable with your basics and getting ready to dive into more complex turn patterns, now would be a good time to invest in some proper dance shoes with a suede sole.
Heels are completely optional, but they can help improve your posture—as long as they don’t cause you pain. If you don’t wear heels regularly, start low (under 2”) and bring a backup so you can switch out to something more comfortable if they start to hurt. As you build strength in your feet you’ll be able to tolerate wearing higher heels for longer, but don’t rush it and cut back if you notice pain after you’ve taken them off.
You don’t need to splash out but if you intend to be dancing a few hours each week plus socials, try to invest in a good, supportive pair that will give your feet the support they need and prevent injury. Check out this video for more information.
Some Options
High-quality dance shoes can get £££ but here are some budget options to get you started. You can try second-hand options like Vinted and FB Marketplace too. Do your research and don’t be afraid to return shoes that aren’t a good fit. Dance shoes can fit a little differently than you’re used to.
